(Sundaycast) God’s Peace Comes By His Word And By His People(Isaiah 60:1; Luke 1:78 79)

After nine months of silence, Zechariah’s mouth is unloosed and he brings a tremendous prophecy that his son John will announce. Look at the words in this passage that describe His God. God is “merciful” and “tender.” Is this how you understand your God? Zechariah was a religious leader of his day. Did he know that Jesus would be rejected by other religious leaders because He was “merciful” and “tender” to the wrong kind of people? Zechariah declares that our merciful God will cause the dawn of salvation to break in upon those whose lives are under the shadow of death. That’s us! We know that this light came to us on Easter because God was willing to die killed by our sin. When He was raised from the dead HIs word forgave us. And He caused us to become God’s messengers of forgiving peace on earth. As you consider your tender God guiding you, where will your feet be sent so that you can bring the message of peace on earth to someone you will meet today?

Old Testament Verse

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
Isaiah 60:1

New Testament Verse

Our God is merciful and tender. He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us and to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace.
Luke 1:78-79 GNT

Prayer

My heart is lifted in praising you, God of mercy and tenderness. Give my eyes clarity to see the light of your salvation at work in the darkness of this world. Open my soul to receive the light of your salvation into my darkest shadows. Guide my steps to walk in peace and to bring peace to those I meet. Amen.
