When people catch you doing something wrong it’s pretty easy for them to shame you, to blame you, to find fault with what you did to get in the trouble that you’re in. You also are good at saying these words if vindictiveness to yourself. When others join you in shaming yourself, it is a spiral that can lead to some pretty severe depression. How do we get free from from this kind of vindictive judgment? Someone needs to vindicate us. That someone is Jesus. Jesus gives us the power to live differently because of His presence that stands between all those who accuse you and yourself. This may even be that voice inside of you that you listen to instead of the promises of the Lord. So Jesus announces to you, “I am mighty to save. And I save you who cannot save yourself because I am generous with my grace upon grace. I am announcing my vindication to you. You are saved.” Rest in the verdict that Jesus is speaking over you. You are vindicated! You are forgiven! You are free!
It is I, announcing vindication, mighty to save.
Isaiah 63:1
Are you envious because I am generous? So the last will be first.
Matthew 20:15-16
Gracious God, your generosity is amazing! You sent your Son to die to save me! I regret I often listen to the serpent's voice about what is missing in my life and am slow to understand what you are teaching me. Nurture in me a generous spirit that enables me to serve others gladly and to glorify you. Amen.
