(Theta) Enlightened (Isaiah 50:10; 1 John 2:8)

Many promises in the Bible help us see the light our Lord Jesus creates in the darkness. Here is one powerful promise in Psalm 18:28-30. “[28] For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness. [29] For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. [30] This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” Our picture today captures the promise of the resurrection of Jesus who broke through the darkness of death when He was raised up on the third day out of the tomb. Jesus’ name is the light that overcomes all our fears. The hymn, “Oh for a thousand tongues to sing” has the third verse beginning with this promise, “Jesus, the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease-tis music in the sinner’s ears, tis life and health and peace.” As you listen today, consider how His name is the light in your darkness. Look for ways today to proclaim the name of Jesus to someone you meet.

New Testament Verse

The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
1 John 2:8

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for being the true light of my life. You redeem the world and bring me your gracious light. When I confess the darkness of sin in my heart, forgive me. Shine on me so I can trust you even when darkness looms on the horizon. Make me a beacon of light to someone today. Amen.
