Our Irishcast friends once again declare to us the power of God to bring His light into our darkness. Today it is our hearts that need help. As you listen today reflect on the truth that the problem of darkness in the world is a lot closer to home than you may want to believe. But the good news is that your heart problem is no surprise to your Creator. Thanks be to God who is able to cut deeply into our hearts with the light of the gospel. Remember the Pentecost sermon Peter preached in Jerusalem? “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). Repentance and baptism are God’s means to bring us the forgiveness of our sins. Our dark hearts receive the light of God’s grace. Our new beginning. It is God doing in us as only God can do.
Your sun shall no more go down or your moon withdraw itself, for the LORD will be your everlasting light.
Isaiah 60:20
For it is the God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6
Jesus, Light of the world, thank you for calling me out of the darkness into your radiance. I see the light of truth, wisdom, and the glory of God in your word. Shine the light of your presence through me to bless others. I rejoice that one day there will be no darkness. You will be the everlasting light. Amen.
