Our podcasts are 5-8 minutes in length. We create these messages using one or two brief verses from the Bible that come from a devotional book. Our purpose is to help you hear the grace of Jesus in these verses so that your life may find its grounding in Christ alone. It is this grounding in grace that makes forgivin’ livin’ your way of freedom.

00(Sundaycast) A Prodigal’s Hope (Hab 3:18; Luke 15:20) (Faith)
Katrine and Margaret on Mother’s Day with a homemade card created by Margaret for her mom. These two beloved friends joined us this past weekend mainly to be at the funeral of Katrine’s aunt Mary. Mary was the youngest sister in the Hult family in which Ingrid, Katrine’s mom, was the oldest daughter. Ingrid trained Sonja and me in writing out the TRIP prayer using the “Daily Texts.” She also taught us how to share our responses with each other and finally to pray our responses to our Lord. We thank God for the shared ministry God has blessed us with through this wonderful family of David, Katrine and Margaret.

00(Mission Cast) I Am Not Afraid (Psalm 56:11; Acts 9:31) (Trust)
Jeff and Mim discuss the backstories of King David (1 Samuel 16 - 21) and the Apostle Paul (Acts 6:8 - 8:3, Acts 9), which form the backdrop to these verses. David had many reasons to fear. King Saul had turned against him and vowed to kill him. He fled into a city, which was the hometown of Goliath, whom he had killed in a battle. The Apostle Paul had brutally ravaged the early church only to become converted himself and now the hunter became the hunted. Both men proved courageous in the midst of adversity. The early church, too, flourished because it was fearless. What makes a believer unafraid? Applied to missions, what keeps Christians from sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ? Is it doubt in its truth or is it fear of man? Jeff and Mim discuss honestly the call to be available 24/7 to share Christ when called upon, trusting in God rather than fearing circumstances.

00Jesus Is With Us In Our Terror (Proverbs 3:25 26; Matthew 14:26 27) (Shepherd’s Voice)
Jesus knows what it is to be inflicted with terror. He knows what we need when we face the surprise of terror. His promise of turning spears into pruning hooks first meant that He had to endure the spear. “But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a SPEAR, and at once there came out blood and water.” (John 19:34.) "And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their SPEARS into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Micah 4:3). Now only Jesus can declare to you and to me when we face our SPEARS, “take heart, it is I, do not be afraid. I am with you!”

00You Are Never Separated From God’s Love (Nehemiah 9:2; Romans 8:38 39) (Faith)
The fear of separation is held by the power of death. Paul immediately states that death cannot separate us from the love of God. Nor can any other power that may attack us in this life. The carving of the big hand of God embracing the person who is held by it embodies this hope. Even though the enemies of this life may do everything possible to our bodies and even kill it, the one who clings to us is God and God is life. So life wins. And the love of God is the life God wants us to know. That’s why God sent His only begotten Son to die for us so that everyone who believes in Jesus may know the love of God and that this love is life.

Part of today’s podcast reflects how our good friend Margaret celebrated her 40th birthday on Saturday. Today, the 8th, is her actual birthday. Margaret reveals the freedom she enjoys in the Spirit her doing a sacred dance with Sonja during her party on Saturday. How do we receive the Spirit so that the freedom to love, to be kind, to be generous flows from us? We know it is God’s will that our lives are Spirit led, so let us ask our Lord to help us live differently so that our mind is set on the Spirit and not on our flesh. (Romans 8:5-8)

00(Sundaycast) Braces For Our Soul (Psalm 109:30; Luke 13:13) (Sanctification)
We all know that when teeth sometimes need to be straightened. When they do, we get a special dentist to help us. That person is called an ortho-dontist. The word “ortho” comes from the Greek language and it means straight. This word is used to describe what happened to the woman in the Luke text for today. She was a bent over but when Jesus healed her, she “orthoed” up. She straightened up. We have been learning in the words from the “Daily Texts” that God’s word is meant to straighten us out. God’s word becomes the braces for our soul. What gets straightened out is our self-pity. What gets straightened out is our self-righteousness. God uses the words of His mouth to change our mouth speech from pity to praise. So how is it going with the braces that our Lord is using to help you get free? To help you live in praise and thanksgiving each day?

00(Mission Cast) Living Water For The Soul (Hosea (Mission Cast) Living Water For The Soul (Hosea 14:5; Matthew 6:31 32)
Jeff and MIm, ponder the living water (dew) of God on a horse ranch in California, located in a serene, but dry and arid climate. Jesus told the woman at the well (John 4), “Whoever drinks of this water (from his well) will be thirsty again, but the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The Holy Spirit is a gift from the Father and the Son and lives and dwells within each believer’s heart as a gift received by grace through faith. The Lord’s promise is for all who believe regardless of nation, language, tribe or tongue. In the words of Isaiah 58:11 - “The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a well watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” The world is thirsting for righteousness. We are called to be salt and light with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Might I add, “we are called to be water-carriers to the dying and thirsty.” May God give us strength to persevere in faithfulness as his servants.

00Truth And Trip Johan’s Testimony (Ps 119:43; Romans 1:25) (Sanctification) 2
Sonja and I learned how to pray the TRIP method using the “Daily Texts” from Ingrid Trobisch. She came to Mount Carmel in 1987 at the invitation of our friend Jean Bierly (and her husband Bill who is now with our Lord). After that Ingrid came every summer and we developed a couple’s retreat ministry based on one she was leading. We trained 10 couples to be leaders of these retreats which were held at many sites in the Midwest. The purpose was to help couples listen to God, to one another and to practice the deepest intimacy we can know, transparent prayer, using the “Daily Texts.” As with anything God does, it takes time for these changes within us to happen. Yesterday, Ingrids’ daughter, Katrine, (Margaret’s mama), told me a phrase her dad’s mom would use in German, “Jeden Tag ein bißchen” (everyday a little). This phrase applies to how God works in us. My prayer is that your life would find the daily changes God has given me. God took His time and He is still taking time to do His work in my life and in our marriage. Paul described this process well when he wrote, “As we behold Christ’s face, we are changed from one degree of glory into another” (2 Corinthians 3:18). A little bit each day is all we need.
