The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth he has given to human beings.

From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.
Luke 12:48
Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for the goodness you lavish on creation. Thank you for the earth's beauty, fragrance of flowers, shade of trees, and food that sustains. We are reckless in our responsibilities to care for this world; it suffers from our abuse. Forgive us. Restore the earth, and give us grace to be faithful servants. Amen.
