David and Paul are the two authors of today’s texts. Both of them know what it is to be in trouble. They both admit they needed help from God. The question is, where do you fit into this picture? When you are in trouble do you feel guilty? If so, you need forgiveness. David did. So do we. How about feeling wretched about your condition in life? Paul felt this way. He needed to be rescued. And he was rescued. We will be rescued too. The heart of our hope is grounded in the grace we receive from Jesus. He came to this earth to seek and to save the lost. That’s us. We are lost. David was lost. Paul was lost. He saved David. He saved Paul. He saved you. He saved me. We fit right into the world where David and Paul lived.
Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.
Psalm 25:18
Wretched person that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:24-25
God, your gracious forgiveness is my greatest treasure. Your gospel assures me of your steadfast love regardless of my wretched condition. This is life to me. Forgive me when I get caught up in petty dramas that I use to make myself look good. Help me to practice forgiving others daily. This is what matters, now and forever. Amen.
