Gossiping is widespread. Most conversation is comprised of discussion about other people, their problems, successes, and their habits. Most of the time this is not harmful. But it is so easy for us to fall into the trap of comparing our well being with another’s misfortune. How do we let the Holy Spirit change our habit of talking about people to our own advantage? Today’s texts force us to see how deeply affected we are by this need. We need to begin by praying. Ask. Seek. Knock. Let God lead you to the truth that will set you free.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Exodus 20:16
You know that no lie comes from the truth.
1 John 2:21
Lord, you are the truth. Following you is costly. It is dangerous to be of the truth. But life comes only when we die to ourselves. Grant me your courage to be a witness to the life that comes from following you. Free me from fearing any consequences that may come from witnessing to you. Amen.
