Jeff and Mim discuss what it is like to be “downing in your sin and iniquity” (Psalm 38). Like David, the penitent thief on the cross reached out to God for mercy — he talked directly to God incarnate in the flesh, Jesus Christ. Paul writes in 2 Corinathians 5:21 — “For our sake, God made him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Jesus absolved the thief of his sins while on the cross. He took the thief’s sin upon himself and gave him his righteousness. Profound Grace. All that happened that day was intentional and part of the plan.
For my iniquities have gone over my head; they weigh like a burden too heavy for me.
Psalm 38:4
Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom." He replied, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
Luke 23:42-43
Lift me, Lord. The heaviness of life is overwhelming. I need to let go of those things I cannot manipulate. Forgive my sins. Help me to recall that you want me in your heavenly kingdom as well as being your light and salt in the world. When I'm freed, I will rejoice and sing songs of gladness! Amen.
