When Jesus gives us a command, he also gives us a way to fulfill it. We learned this on Wednesday with the verses on “do not fear.” Jesus gives us His presence in the midst of our fears. His word is our peace. He comes with His word. In today’s verses, we see commands again. The promises for its fulfillment is in the verses of the Bible. But notice this photo. The 10 Commandments also have their fulfillment in the work of the Holy Spirit. Compare Exodus with Galatians. And notice the power of the cross which gives us the heart to fulfill the law.
Fear God, and keep his commandments, for that is the whole duty of everyone.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:29-31
Lord, forgive me for not listening. I admit that I am so busy talking and doing that I cannot hear your still, small voice of love. Your whispers of grace are best heard when I close my mouth and open my ears. Let me be bold in silence and humble in action. Amen.
