Why do words matter so much? Because words carry real power. For example, God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light" (Genesis 1:3). “The universe was created by the word of God" (Hebrews 11:3). We bear the image of a Speaking God — our own words build or wound, bless or curse, echoing the speech of the Creator. Jeff and Mim discuss how the condition of the heart determines what we say. What if we spoke out of a heart well-grounded in Scripture and in the knowledge that we are loved and that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus? How would our choice of words be different? I dare say we would speak less, and more in loving ways that encourage and build one another up. The world would truly be different. Lord, help us to discipline our tongues and words through your word and by your grace and power. Amen.
