Jeff and Mim discuss that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law. In Christ, there is no condemnation for all who believe. So, we fix on eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. They also consider the missional implications of these texts. All Saints Day is not only a time of commemorating the saints who have gone before us, but also to envision future saints yet to join the great crowd of witnesses. The fields are ripe unto harvest. It is our joy to sow God’s word to present and future generations. Mim tells stories from her recent visitations in churches to raise “mission consciousness” and “mission zeal.” Jeff retells the story of the Good Samaritan from the aspect of Jesus’ question: “Who was the good neighbor?” May we be good neighbors to the world with Christ’s love, mercy, grace, and compassion.
I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
Psalm 119:6
But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
Luke 8:15 NIV
Holy God, thank you for the steadfastness of your word that grows, guides, and harvests lives for you. I regret when I give up or become complacent at tending my heart in that good soil. Help me to let your word keep watering and pruning me. Today, I remember with joy loved ones now enjoying your heavenly garden. Amen.
