The 4th Sunday in Advent reminds us that Christmas is almost here. Each week that we light these candles, there is an expectation of the fulfillment that Christmas promises. The hope of the Messiah that shaped the life of the shepherds was fulfilled in the angel’s proclamation and their journey to the manger. Today’s hymn declares that we need to proclaim the greatness of our Lord. This proclamation for us is built on our hope in the salvation we have received from Jesus. As you go out into your world today, look for ways that you can proclaim the hope of your soul to those you meet. You will be an angel to some shepherd today who needs to hear the hope of salvation from you. Sing on!
For you, O LORD, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth.
Psalm 71:5
In hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what one already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Romans 8:24-25
Precious Jesus, you fill me with joy and peace as I trust in you. I am eternally grateful that you saved me. Your Spirit lives within me, and you will bring me home with you for all eternity. I cling to you, my rock and my redeemer. Bless me with confident, patient anticipation, for you are my hope. Amen.
