( Theta) But Then (Psalm 107:3,8 & Ephesians 2:12 13)

These words from Ephesians have been the hardest words in the Bible for me. It’s because I know too many people who say that they are without god. To live in the world without God is what an “atheoi” is. The word atheist means “without God.” The whole meaning of our Bible’s message from the beginning to the end is that our God is “with us.” The word translates as “Immanuel” in Hebrew. But what counts is how it translates into our lives that the God who created the entire cosmos (“kosmos”) is not far away from us as many think that a pure god would be…but no, our God became impure with us. When our God became a human being and was born as Jesus, then we know that our God took on the worst our flesh can be. And our God is not ashamed to be identified with us at our worst. And to assure us of this, He became the most intimate He could ever be when He was beaten, mocked, and killed on the cross. He was completely exposed to the whole world as one who shared in all the wickedness that we are. This is why I believe my God will never abandon me. My God is “Immanuel” when I’m at my worst. In fact He became the worst I could ever be when He took the sins of the whole world on Himself. So, I can never be “atheoi” because my God keeps telling me, I am with you always and nothing will separate you from me.

Remember that you were at that time without Christ, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:12-13

Prayer

I praise you, God, for your unfailing love and wonderful deeds. I am a sinner who deserves punishment. You gave me what I did not deserve-your mercy and grace. Thank you for drawing me to yourself by the blood of Jesus. I eagerly await gathering with believers from every land to worship you in heaven. Amen.
