When we cry out to God we are fulfilling one of our important purposes as a member of the body of Christ. God uses our prayers of intercession to change the world. The ministry of intercession is not just ours. Paul writes in Romans 8 that this is also one of the ways the Spirit works in us. He declares this In Romans 8:26. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” But intercession is also the work of Jesus. Again in Romans 8:34 he reveals this purpose Christ has. “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died —more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” So when you are crying out to God our Father, know that your prayers are shared by the Holy Spirit and Jesus. We are in this together as intercessors for God’s “kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.”
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
Psalm 16:1
But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
2 Thessalonians 3:3
Faithful Lord, thank you for being my refuge and strength. Protect me from all my self-reliance. Forgive my obsession for control in times of trouble and transition. Help me to join your faithful people so that together we might strengthen each other and bless others. Amen.
