How free do you want to be? Today’s texts help us to see that Jesus appeared so that our lives would no longer be controlled by our scheming but instead by the freedom of godliness. At the heart of this freedom is the willingness to admit you are wrong to someone close to you. This admission humbles us but it also frees us from trying to live by our power instead of by the power of grace which has appeared. Our Forgivin’ Livin’ ministry exists to remind you daily that we are all tempted to control our world to our own advantage. Jesus calls us to die to that need for control. One of the first steps in getting free from your need to control is to admit you are wrong to someone close to you. Try it the next time you know you fall short. See what happens. Grace will appear. You will love it.
God made human beings straightforward, but they have devised many schemes.
Ecclesiastes 7:29
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly.
Titus 2:11-12
God of grace, your glory leads me to a new life of obedience. I desire to serve you with my whole being. Thank you for exchanging my scheme-filled life for your blessedness and holiness. I am forgiven and redeemed. I praise you for turning me from the lure of the world and setting me on the course to salvation. Amen.
