Jesus invites us to come to Him for the one thing we can’t find anywhere else, rest. St Augustine wrote about the reason for this in his book “Confessions.” “Thou movest us to delight in praising Thee; for Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Thee.” We were created for resting in God. But as each of us knows, we resist God’s call to come. We all have our reasons but it comes down to one thing, pride. What is needed is for each of us to ask God for help. “Help us Lord to respond to your invitation and to receive your rest.”
Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.
Psalm 68:19
Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
Saving God, thank you for giving me strength when I have none. When mistakenly I think it's all up to me, you take the load off my back. You lift me to see the way ahead and brighten my task. Called forward, I am unburdened and free. Today, with thankful heart, let me lend my back to another's burdens. Amen.
