( Theta) Morning Prayer (Psalm 5:3 & Mark 1:35) (Shepherd’s Voice)

Every year we pick a verse for the cover of our “Daily Texts.” We try to find a verse that is consistent with the verses that are selected from the readings for the year. Today’s Old Testament verse was chosen for the cover of the book. “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you and watch.” (Psalm 5:3). We know that throughout our community of “Daily Texts” users, the morning is the most common time when people read and reflect on the verses for the day. But there are many of you who listen at night just before you go to sleep. So whether in the morning or the evening or anytime during the day, we trust that our Lord Jesus hears our voice when we plead our case to Him.

Old Testament Verse

O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you and watch.
Psalm 5:3

New Testament Verse

In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.
Mark 1:35

Prayer

In the early morning, Lord, you hold me in hope. I tell you my longings. You listen as I wrestle with what I've done and what I'm to do. Lord, forgive me for making excuses for my behavior. Create in me a spirit of joyful humility. Thank you for the coming of the Light, who is Christ. Amen.
