God’s love to you should flow through you into the world. You are a river of God’s love flowing into lives around you. But you can get damned up. Romans 8:1 says, “there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” But you can feel condemned. And this dams the flow of the water of life and love others need to receive through you. The answer? God’s forgiveness has to break your dam. You get free from whatever is holding you back from freely loving others when you hear the words spoken to you, “in the name of Jesus your sin is forgiven.” When you experience this word of forgiveness, your love is free to flow. This happened at the Last Supper when Jesus spoke to his disciples. He said this word of absolution (forgiveness) in John 13:34, “love one another as I have loved you.” His love is his absolution. Absolution assures us we are loved by God. We can love others by absolving them as we have been absolved by God. Remember to practice the ABC’s again today. A=Absolve those who have hurt you. B=Bless them in all your words about them. C=Constantly do this until any feeling of anger goes away. Your dams will be broken and God’s love will flow to you and through you.
You who love the LORD, hate evil.
Psalm 97:10
Admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them.
1 Thessalonians 5:14
Giver of all good, thank you for the gentle power of community. In a world that often chooses to destroy rather than build up, I can easily follow the ways of the enemy. Embolden those who patiently counsel, encourage, admonish, and cheer others on. Welcome me into new opportunities to do the same for friends and neighbors today. Amen.
