Do you believe that God is your refuge and strength? Can you imagine that God was looking out for His mother when He was dying on the cross? Compassion. Yesterday we learned that this is how God wants to be known. But for each of us, compassion is missing when we get obsessed with our need for control. On Sunday, Pastor David Blackstad preached on how the Holy Spirit frees us from ourselves. The filling of the Spirit shows us the eternal world for which we are created. And He helps us love others with the tender mercy of our God. You can read David’s sermon, “Shrinking or Drinking,” by downloading it on your “prayer journal download.” May you know what it means to be free to love.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.
Psalm 46:1-2
Jesus said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son." Then he said to the disciple, "Here is your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
John 19:26-27
Jesus, thank you for providing for my needs. You give me strength when I am weak. You help me when I am weary and troubled. You supply meaningful relationships just when I need them. Your timing is perfect. You bring forth freedom from fear when I am anxious. You shower me with good gifts. Thank you! Amen.
