Jeff & Mim discuss with special friends, Doug & Kathleen, what enables a person to remain calm and at peace in the midst of pressure situations. Such peace comes as a grace, in the moment, but is also built over time, like filling a reservoir, through times of prayer, from which one can draw upon in times of trial and persecution. People today are easily offended and react with anger and even violence. How can one engage with fighting the injustices of the world without becoming angry or hostile? One must have a deep and abiding trust that God is both merciful and a righteous and fair judge. He will give relief to the afflicted but will also rightly judge the oppressor. Our peace with God comes with the certainty that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. This truly releases us from an anxious life and sets us free for forgiven living.
For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.
Psalm 62:1
It is indeed just of God to repay with affliction those who afflict you and to give relief to the afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-7
Come quickly, my Maker and Redeemer, for I need your saving grace to restore my soul. I praise you for the sweet release of your grace. Open my eyes to the struggles and afflictions of others. Stir and strengthen me to bring the comfort and relief of your life-giving word to sooth my neighbors' afflictions. Amen.
