Waiting for the Lord is our calling as those who follow Jesus. We wait because we have a God who promises to come to us, to help us, to deliver us. Consider the disciples who were waiting in fear after Good Friday but Jesus came and appeared to them. They were overjoyed. Then after Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples waited in Jerusalem. When the power of the Holy Spirit fell on them, they were new people with new attitudes and new commitment to fulfill the calling our Lord had given them. So what about you? You are a believer. You are a follower of Jesus. You are waiting to receive something our Lord plans to give to you. You are waiting for God to act. And God will…”The Lord waits to be gracious to you and therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to you.” (Isaiah 30:18). Keep waiting. God is faithful.
The Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.
Isaiah 30:18
If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.
James 1:5
Righteous God, you dwell in eternity where I cannot go. Forgive my limited vision when I think you are dragging your feet in caring for things that matter to me. Grant me vision to look beyond the trials of life to see the salvation that is already ours, even as I serve you now in my shaky, anxious love. Amen.
