Joining the story of “The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe” with the passages from today’s texts helps us connect the biblical texts with the familiar story of sin and redemption in Lewis’ story. How do we understand the power of sin crouching at our door and what does it mean for us to find the help in Christ to overcome the power that lurks so closely? We know that forgiveness in Christ melts the icy cold winter that our guilt and resentment creates in our lives. But we also know that the Holy Spirit is given to us to help us with new desires that take away the power that sin has in the world. We know from our theme verse in Romans 6;14 that when we are under grace sin cannot rule our lives as it does when the law controls us. So keep your hearts and minds on the grace that is in Jesus Christ.
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.
Genesis 4:7 NIV
When Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. He said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood."
Matthew 27:3-4
Precious Lord Jesus, your victory over death and your greeting of peace assure me that I am included in the circle of your forgiveness. Grant me freedom to turn from thinking only of myself. Uphold me to embrace all for whom you died. Live through me today, Lord Jesus, that I might bless your world. Amen.
