(Mission Cast) Teach Me Your Ways (Psalm 143:10; Romans 8:14) (Discipleship)

Jeff reflects on our need to be taught God’s ways, which are intended for our good, as we learn to live in right relationship with God and with each other. Unfortunately, our sense of right and wrong has been corrupted, distorted and sometimes reversed. We are our own arbiters of our moral code. We view everything that serves the self and sense of self as right and everything that threatens the self or sense of self as wrong. We feel justified in neutralizing these threats to self even if it requires violence against the other. We are indeed dead in our trespasses and sins, lost and enslaved to sin. Our only hope is Jesus Christ whose atoning sacrifice sets us free and rescues us. We receive the Holy Spirit by grace through faith and are empowered to live according to God’s ways, sometimes, but so easily fall back into sin. When Christ returns to claim his own and establish his kingdom; however, we will be transformed and made complete in Christ and then we will be able to always walk his pathways both to his glory and to the blessing of his creation. Until then, we teach and admonish each other with God’s true word to remain steadfast and hopeful for the journey. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Prayer

Guiding God, how gracious you are in showing me your will, and how stubborn I can be in refusing to do it! I am sorry for the ways I resist your leading. Come, Spirit of God, and renew my soul. Remind me that I am your child. Help me to walk in the footsteps of your Son. Amen.
