(Awaken) Setting Captives Free (Psalm 103:2,4; Luke 13:12 13) (Salvation)
The Tampa Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers are fighting to be crowned World Champions this week. The crown may have been decided last night in Florida. A “Triple Crown” winner is also a baseball term when an athlete wins the batting average, home runs and runs batted in. But the “triple crown” title is awarded in over 20 different sports around the world. Look it up to see how often this crown is awarded to winners for great performances. We love the idea of crowning winners who have accomplished something great. But the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have a different version of being crowned. Today’s Psalm 103 promises that you will be crowned with steadfast love and mercy. All three of them will put their hand upon you. So you and I have the “triple crown” of God’s grace covering us. You won’t make the front page with this crown. But you will make a page in the “book of life.” That is where you want your name to appear alongside the ONE who is crowned with many crowns. And the most glorious crown He wore is the crown of thorns. That was the crown with our name on it. But He took it from us and in exchange gave us the crown with His name on it but He inscribed our name right next to His.
