Jesus promises to send His witnesses to the ends of the earth. The artwork by one of our Floridacast grandchildren shows all the different colors of people who are sent out by our Lord as His witnesses. November 1 is the day we remember all the Saints who have been witnesses to Jesus in the many centuries since He first gave us this mission. Your church may name those saints who have gone home to be with our Lord since last year on this day. But today also is THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH. We are encouraged to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. Each of these believers knows what it means to be willing to be a martyr for Jesus. When we think of the word “martyr” we usually mean the person died for the Lord. But the word “martures” in Greek is translated “witness.” So even when you witness to Jesus, you are being a martyr. It may not cost you your life but there is a price we pay when we tell the people around us that Jesus is Lord. As we pray to encourage our persecuted family of faith, let us also pray today for our opportunity to witness to someone in our world. For now he shall be great to the ends of the earth.
Micah 5:4
You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8
Powerful Lord, your great name will be known to all people! Who do I know in my world that needs to know about you and what you mean to me? Bring that person to mind. Help me to recognize encounters with others as natural opportunities. Give me courage and grace to make your name known. Amen.
