Jeff and Mim discuss Proverbs 10:2, which warns that “treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death,” and Romans 3:24, which says we “are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” We explore how Paul answers the question Solomon leaves open: whose righteousness delivers from death? There are two questions to reflect on, one inward and one outward, and a simple challenge to practice no-strings-attached generosity this week. You’ll also hear how a letter in the mailbox announcing that a crushing debt has been erased captures the heart of the gospel. Just in time for Reformation weekend, it’s a reminder that the debt was real, someone else paid it, and the good news arrives as a gift. Also … Happy Birthday, Johan!
Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.
Proverbs 10:2
They are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:24
Generous Lord, your gifts to me are many, especially your robe of righteousness that covers me and shapes my heart. Remind me to put it on by faith when I am tempted to do anything that will harm me or someone else. In challenging moments, give me rightness of spirit and words that build up and not tear down. Amen.
