The Forgivin’ Livin’ ministry proclaims the happy exchange or the sweet swap. It is stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21: “For our sake God made Jesus to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” But it is found in many other places in the Bible. Today we discover this sweet swap transaction in Isaiah where God trades his wedding robes of beauty and grace for our filthy rags of sin and shame (Isaiah 61:10 and Isaiah 64:6). None of us likes to think we are that bad that all our good deeds are rags, like a dirty diaper or something similar. But that is the good news message of the Bible. All your goodness stinks. You are impure. You are contaminated. The only detergent that can clean you up is the blood of Christ. His death cleans you up from the inside out. So you are pure. You are holy. It is all a gift of God. And you get new clothes out of the deal. You get to wear Jesus’ hand me downs now and for eternity.
My whole being shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness.
Isaiah 61:10
The fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.
Ephesians 5:9
I give thanks to be clothed and covered by your gifts of salvation and righteousness. I regret when my actions don't reflect these honors. Forgive my apathy and alter my awareness to what is good, right, and true. Help me to be and to bring the light for others to see the good around us in this world. Amen.
