The Bible reveals that God is behind the rise and fall of Kings. When St Paul tells us as followers of Jesus that we are called by God to pray for these leaders we sometimes want to say no. But we pray by faith not by feelings. So the first part of our reluctant praying is to repent of our desire to control our prayers. We need to lay down our need to “lord” it over God’s will by laying our “crowns” at His feet. The hymn “Love Divine All Loves Excelling” says it all. So let’s stop complaining and keep praying.
He changes times and seasons, deposes kings and sets up kings.
Daniel 2:21
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Sovereign God, you rule with power and wisdom. Our world knows evil, violence, and cruelty. Grant leaders and those in high positions wisdom, discretion, goodness, and compassion. Thank you that you work all things together for good according to your perfect plans and purposes. May our society welcome your words and your ways. Amen.
