Phyllis, Paul and Marco join Sonja and me for this podcast on praying in our suffering. We have had several passages this week that direct us to praying through our pain. Psalms of lament are a critical part of the prayer life of believers. Today’s conversation leads us to consider how lament is normal for Christian prayer.
Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for your servants.
Nehemiah 1:6
And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them.
Luke 18:7-8
What a listening and caring friend you are to me, Jesus! Forgive me for crying out in self-pity. You know how impatient I can be. Grant me your eyes to see beyond myself. Today, lead me to someone who needs me to be your instrument of peace. Amen.
