For God’s word to become a delight and a joy for us, we need the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost the Holy Spirit opened the mouths and the ears of all those people who were gathered together. As you listen today ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and your heart so that you will have a hunger to devour His word.
Your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.
Jeremiah 15:16
Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; the eunuch saw him no more and went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:38-39
God of hosts, I delight in knowing that in baptism I am called by your name. Forgive me when I lose sight of this joy for my life. Help me rejoice in your word that accepts me as your beloved child. As I go on my way today, guide me by your Spirit to share your name with others. Amen.
