Living All In With Jesus (Eccl 9:10; Colossians 3:17) (Discipleship)
Today’s verses describe the zeal of an English King who had to overcome huge obstacles to defeat the Vikings as they raided England. His life was shaped by prayer. Every day in his desolation he called on the Lord reciting Psalms to give him the might for battle which no leader in England could muster against this powerful enemy attacking its shores and creating terrible devastation. “From the fury of the Norsemen, dear Lord deliver us” became part of the daily prayer life of the English. But Alfred has success where it seemed impossible. He broke down their defenses and laid siege to their strongholds. Finally the Viking leader Guthrum surrendered. And instead of killing him, Alfred led him to faith in Christ and was his sponsor for his baptism. Alfred is the only English king to be identified as GREAT. And what made him great was the great God who kept helping and directing. We also have this great God ready to help us in any battle we must fight. Just remember that whatever you do, do it in the name of of the Lord Jesus your Savior.
