God watches over our cities and countries but we are called by God to pray for these place and our leaders who serve us there. We are not to worship them. But prayer is needed for every person who is elected or appointed to public office. There is plenty of temptation for elected officials to serve themselves as they are serving you and me. Your prayers can make a difference in how they use their calling for a higher calling than just what suits them or their group. And when you are praying for them, you will also hold them accountable for the work they are doing on your behalf and on behalf of your city, state or country. So let us pray. Today. And every day.
Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain.
Psalm 127:1
I urge that prayers be made for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Lord, your ways are just and true. Thank you for keeping watch over all peoples and nations. Forgive my arrogance of thinking I can make my way through life without your wise guidance. Equip with just and kind hearts all who govern. May your word shape their leading. Empower me to advocate for justice and peace for your people. Amen.
