The song of victory in Exodus 15 is led by Moses and Miriam after Pharoah’s army was destroyed in the Red Sea. This hymn of praise that the rescued slaves sang is our hymn as well. Our enemy, the old self, was drowned in the waters of our baptism. Out of that death a new self emerges that is hidden in Christ. For it is no longer we who live but Christ in us. And so we sing praises with our mind and with our spirit as we journey with Jesus on the road of faith.
I will sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted.
Exodus 15:1 NIV
I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray with the mind also; I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will sing praise with the mind also.
1 Corinthians 14:15
Wise and loving God, how I long for the day when I will be in my right mind-both praising you with my whole heart and speaking the truth in love. I am not there yet. I hope through your gracious power to complete the work you have begun in my heart even when I am confused and grateful. Amen.
