Labor Day is observed the first Monday in September. It is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday began in the late nineteenth century. Labor leaders were pushing for a federal holiday to recognize what workers had done for America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City in 1882. As followers of Jesus, we get to parade with our Lord who is our Labor Day hero. Why? Jesus did all the work and we got all the pay. Now we know why we can rest from our labors (Matthew 11:28…”come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden…”). Some day when we have our heavenly reunion, we will be joined together with millions of others who look to Jesus as their Labor Day hero. He did it all. He does it all. We rest in His labor. Until then, we can invite others to get in on the celebration. Spread the good news! We want everyone to join that heavenly parade. We will all be floating with joy.
