(Mission Cast) “All My Life You Have Been Faithful” (Psalm 71:18 Luke 2:36 38)

Jeff & Mim are joined today with special life-long friends, Doug and Kathleen. In our early years of marriage, Doug & Kathleen served with Student Ventures, the high school ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. Together we served the youth in the Minnetonka, Minnesota area. Today we examine the psalmist’s petition to the Lord to be given the grace to declare the Lord’s steadfast love and power to the next generation. And the example of both Anna and Simeon, two elders who prayed night and day in the temple, awaiting the revelation of the Lord’s Messiah in Jesus. We reflect on the “gray hairs” in our lives who strengthen and encouraged us in the Lord. We pray that as gray hairs ourselves, we might be encouragers of a younger generation. We pray for the opportunity to share our hope with others until the day the Lord calls us home. May we all reflect on the goodness of the Lord. He is faithful! We close with a popular contemporary song from Bethel Music “The Goodness of the Lord.”

Old Testament Verse

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.
Psalm 71:18 NIV

New Testament Verse

There was also a prophet, Anna. She was a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. At that moment she came and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Luke 2:36-38

Prayer

Everlasting God, it is so easy to feel as though in my old age you aren't present. These scriptures remind me otherwise. Forgive my fainting heart. Give me the fortitude of Anna to wait and focus on you. Your promises are everlasting. Today, I will testify to your presence all these years, to inspire faith in the next generation. Amen.
