November 11 is Veterans Day in the United States. It is observed on November 11th every year, regardless of the day of the week. The date was chosen to honor the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 when the armistice ending World War I was signed. So it is sometimes called Armistice Day for that reason. For Christians this day has an eternal meaning. Believers are enlisted by Christ as recorded in 2 Timothy 2:[3] “Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. [4] No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.” Jesus enlists us and calls us into active duty as members of the body of Christ, the church. Paul writes this to Timothy saying 1 Timothy 6:[12] “Fight the good fight of the faith.” As in any war, soldiers will suffer and die. But whether we live or die we know that Christ has won the victory. And so we die without fear of the outcome for the battle is not ours but the Lord’s. And one day Jesus will honor all those who fought with HIm for the Kingdom of God to come “on earth as it is in heaven” and we will then know ourselves as Veterans. Veterans of the war fought on earth for our God…not with swords of course but with the Word of God with the power of His gracious love.
Do not fear or be dismayed.
Joshua 8:1
Jesus touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith, let it be done to you." And their eyes were opened.
Matthew 9:29-30
Thank you for encouraging Joshua, the blind men, and me to be faithful to you, our Savior. Your faithfulness led to a victory. You protected troops. You restored sight by your divine, healing touch. Guide my actions in obedience to you. Today we are blessed to honor our veterans and pray for them for protection, healing and restoration. Amen.
