Our podcasts are 5-8 minutes in length. We create these messages using one or two brief verses from the Bible that come from a devotional book. Our purpose is to help you hear the grace of Jesus in these verses so that your life may find its grounding in Christ alone. It is this grounding in grace that makes forgivin’ livin’ your way of freedom.

The CarmelCast concludes its summer of podcasts with today’s message. Next week the podcasts will come to us from the Theta ministry in San Pedro, CA. But Mount Carmel also is the site for a similar young adult ministry like Theta. It is called TAP or The Awaken Project. And you are welcome to join the students in this year’s Awaken Project by coming to Mount Carmel between September 15 and December 5. During this time there will be 8 different weeks when TAP will bring in teachers to train the students in Bible Study and other theological skills to help shape them for their ministry leadership. Sonja and I attended one week last year for the first time. We rented a cabin, enjoyed our own meals, shared in the daily teaching times (both morning and afternoon) and did other activities on the site. We are going to be back again this fall for the third week that begins at the end of September. You can join us or come at another time when it is convenient for your schedule. Out of the darkness of our lives we confess these words of faith from the Apostle's Creed. We speak them out loud. The word assures our faith in our God who provides and protects. The Apostles' Creed-The First Article. (Speak it out loud.) “I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. What does this mean? I believe that God has created me and all that exists. He has given me and still preserves my body and soul with all their powers He provides me with food and clothing, home and family, daily word, and all I need from day to day. God also protects me in time of danger and guards me from every evil. All this he does out of fatherly and divine goodness and mercy, though I do not deserve it. Therefore I surely ought to thank and praise, serve and obey him. This is most certainly true.”

00(Sundaycast) Being Known By Our Good Shepherd (Psalm 79:13; John 10:14) (Shepherd’s Voice)
This mosaic depiction of Jesus our Good Shepherd is found in the tomb of the daughter of a 5th-century Roman emperor. Jesus’ staff takes the shape of a cross and he is surrounded by his flock of sheep. The cross shaped staff reveals the sacrifice Jesus makes for you and for me. He does this for us because we are known by Him and He wants us to be assured of what it means to be known by God. Curt Thompson wrote his book to help us understand what to be known by God is all about. His stories and teaching reveals how being known by God changes our feelings about ourselves and others. You can look up the word “known” to see how often this word is used to help us know ourselves as Jesus knows us. 00(Mission Cast) Unburdened To Run With Joy! (Isaiah 43:24 25; John 5:15) (Sanctification)
We are a day back from China … and yes, we are really jet-lagged, but we are also full of joy as to what God is doing. He is always at work in his creation among his people. Today, Jeff examines the texts in light of the Order of the Mustard Seed, which was originally founded in 1716 by Count Nikolas Ludwig von Zinzendorf, who created the Moravian Community and the Daily Texts. This launched one of the greatest missionary movements in modern history. The Order of the Mustard Seed was revived in 2005 by the 24/7 Prayer Movement at Holy Trinity Church in Clapham, London with three simple vows: 1) Be true to Christ, 2) Be kind to people, and 3) Take the Gospel to the nations. The three vows are lived out through six daily practices: 1) Prayer, Creativity, Hospitality, Justice and Mercy, Learning, and Mission, which is defined as demonstrating God’s presence and relevance wherever he seems absent or ignored. Jesus is always at work with his love and compassion, setting people free from the bondage of sin and death. He removes our burdens so that we might run our race of the christian life with complete joy. May you all run free today.

00Pleasing God (2 Chronicles 19:7; Eph 5:10) (Justification)
Bribery! We do what we can to manipulate people if it can get us out of trouble. How often have you tried to buy your way out of a problem like breaking your mom’s vase and then bringing her flowers to get on her good side? This tactic does not work with God. But so often we try to figure out ways to get on God’s good side. Today’s texts and the podcast message challenge us to consider what is important to God. What is God looking for in our relationship that is not based on us trying to impress Him? We all know the answer. Faith. Hebrews 11:6 says clearly that it is faith. And we know that faith is a gift that God gives to us. Ephesians 2:8…”faith…is not your own doing it is a gift of God.” So how does this gift God has given free you to live a life pleasing to your Lord?

The verses this week are showing us up for what we are without Christ. Old. Puffy. Fleshy. Not much to boast about. But our God loves to take what the world counts low and worthless and turn us into more than a human being…a human blessing. You may be all these things worthy of rejection but don’t count God out. He still gets the last word. “You are my beloved old, puffy, fleshy child. I have redeemed you. I call you by your name. You are mine.”

00(Irishcast) All Things Being Made New (Isa 51v6 1 Corth 13v10) (Heaven)
What can we expect Heaven to be like? We have had many different representations of this promise, but what does it mean for you? One of the more important images that has helped me understand this glorious new beginning comes from Isaiah 11:9. “They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” My old friend John August Swanson created this painting of this peaceable kingdom where violence no longer exists because finally the separation (sin) that keeps us away from God will end. Our life in Him will overflow with holy relationships not hostile ones. Take time today to consider what your LORD is preparing for you.
