00(Irishcast) Our Bountiful God (Ps 65v11 Acts 14v17)
My friend Jim is overcome with the bounty of our Lord as he received grace upon grace on Sunday at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Aberfoyle, Scotland. The pastor preached the gospel message of Christ who is a friend of sinners like the Apostle Peter and Jim. The worship connected Jim with other followers of Jesus who also need to hear the truth about how bounteous our God is to them when there is nothing in them to justify such goodness. That is why we are justified by faith and nothing else. The author of the hymn, “Now Thank We All Our God,” trusted this same bounty. Martin Rinkart (1586-1649) served his church tirelessly through the 30 years war. He buried thousands of people due to a pestilence that struck his town in 1637. His own wife died. At the end of his years of service, the leaders of his church rejected him. In spite of it all, he trusted in the bounty of His Father in heaven. He wrote these words and hundreds others like them helping people to sing their way through every difficulty into the presence of the Risen Christ. May our bounteous Lord give you a song to cheer your soul today.

Bread is one of the great gifts that has world wide importance. All people love homemade bread. The fragrance of fresh bread is one of the more satisfying feelings we can enjoy. Making and eating fresh bread is one of our most shared values world wide. That is why Jesus wants us to know that he is the bread that truly satisfies. Just as important as fresh bread is to our senses so is the fresh word of our Lord life giving to our soul. Today is Sunday. Let the fresh word of God satisfy you deeply today. As you receive the fresh bread of life today, enjoy also the words of this song written by Suzanne Toolan. “I am the bread of life. 00(Tourcast) Irish And Minnesotans Trusting Our Savior’s Ever Present Love (Psalm 17:7; 1 Peter 4:14)
The story told on today’s podcast is about the Covenanters who were killed in Scotland in the 1600’s. The top image in the photo is a commemorative memorial for the 130 pastors were killed on this site in Edinburgh. The lower part of the picture was taken at the graveyard where some of these killed people have been buried. All of us are called to stand firm for our faith, a different times in our lives. The challenge today is not whether we will be faced with such a need to be firm about following Jesus, but rather when it will happen. In this world we will have trouble. The great promise, for each of us, is shared in the podcast today. When we are faced with hostility against us because of our faith, our Lord is with us. Jesus is with you. Jesus will not leave you comfortless. Jesus will give you the words to say. Jesus is your savior who helps you when adversaries come against you. Look to Jesus. He declares, “I am with you always to the end of the age.”
