Today’s texts reveal the importance of hymn singing. We need to express these words in the Bible with songs of praise. That is why we sing hymns. We need to praise our God with the words we find in the Bible. The scriptures that become our prayers are the same scriptures that become our hymns. When we sing these words of prayer and praise, we are changed. Join David as he sings this hymn today. Then sing it many times today and discover what this does for you. “Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessed, most glorious, O Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, your great name we praise.”

00(Trip) Called To Do God’s Will (Genesis 24:56; John 16:7) (Trust)
Jesus declares to you, “I chose you.” Then he states, “Go!” Our assurance is that we are sent by God to do God’s will. And it is up to the Lord to make what we do a success. Our trust is that God will make us accomplish what He wants us to do. Trust His promise. God called you. God equipped you. God will guide you. You will fulfill the task that our Lord has given you to fulfill. The verse from John 15:16 declares this to you. (John 15:16) “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

00(Sundaycast) Good Shepherds Needed (Ezekiel 34:16; 1 Peter 2:25) (Repentance)
Our friends the Hesses are sheep farmers in Moses Lake, Washington. We stopped through there a year ago when we were visiting our good friends in Tacoma, Jane and Phyllis and Paul. Lou is letting me hold one of his young lambs. Lou is also a shepherd for a flock of God’s people in Moses Lake. We all know that holding a lamb does not make you a shepherd. We need a heart for the sheep. The qualifications our God has for shepherds is found in Ezekiel 34. As you read these verses you see that God shows His willingness to do what shepherds need to do. Read Ezekiel 34 today. Pray for the person God has given you to be your shepherd(pastor). Pray for God to raise up more shepherds who will minister to the sheep as He desires. Pray for yourself to have the heart of a shepherd. And then offer yourself to God saying, “here I am send me.”

Gary Van Eps and Jens Hinderlie join me today in a conversation about the testimonies each of them has about Freedom From Fear weekends. Both of them have been leaders in this important ministry. Jens calls it the “gettin honest gettin real” weekend. That is at the heart of what makes these weekends an experience of freedom. When you get honest about the obsessions that you practice out of fear, you experience repentance and you get free. The fruit of freedom is love. Instead of your life being lived in hiding behind your fears, you live in love because you know you are healed and power of Jesus now controls you. A big part of the weekend is confessing our obsessions to one other person and we also get to hear this word of absolution from that same brother or sister. Confession and absolution sets the captive free. We are set free. We can enjoy Forgivin’ Livin’ in a new way with the brothers and sisters who joined us on this special weekend. Thank you to all of you who prayed for this weekend. Your prayers were answered, even for me!

00(Discipleship) Revealing The Father In The Son (1 Kings 19:11 12; John 1:18) (Identity)
Where does God reveal what He is really like? The text from 1 Kings gives us the answer that insurance companies liked. An act of God was something destructive. But Jesus’ birth was an act of God. So was His death. And so was His resurrection from the dead. From the beginning in Genesis, God is One who creates not destroys. If anything has to be destroyed, it is destroyed to make life eternal possible for you and for me. As John puts it in his first letter (chap 3:8) “the Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil.” And then Paul writes in 1 Cor 15:26, “the last enemy to be destroyed is death.” So the insurance companies are correct, an act of God does destroy. But not what they think. For God will destroy everything that keeps you and me from knowing Him and loving Him forever which includes the devil and death. That’s why God sent His only begotten Son. They are in this together. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit all want us to come home to live with them forever.

00(Irishcast) Forgiveness In Christ (2 Sam 24 V10 1 John 1v9)(Repentance)
During the Last Supper, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and he taught them that love means absolution. In our image today we have a sponge. A sponge absorbs messes. A sponge cleans up our skin. Both of these meanings apply to absolution. In absolution, we are cleansed of what has made us feel dirty. Our guilt is forgiven. Our resentment is removed. But for the power of this act to impact us, the dirty mess has to go somewhere. It goes into God. Jesus absorbs our dirt into Himself. He is the One whose word of absolution absorbs what He forgives into Himself. King David was forgiven. He was cleansed. His sin no longer was sticking to his body and stinking up his life. Instead his filthy actions were now sticking to God. If God can forgive someone as bad as King David was, there is hope for you and for me. Jesus absolves you. Your sin is now absorbed into His body. He carried it into the grave. It is gone. You are pure. You are clean. Jesus has become all your dirtiness. In exchange, Jesus has given you all his cleanness. You are clean. You are pure. You can rest in all God does for you and enjoy His sponge bath that makes you clean.

00Living Wisely Can Be Uncomfortable (Psalm 31:15; Ephesians 5:15) (Guidance)
Do you remember the song, “the wise man built his house upon a rock?” The wisdom of course is that the rock foundation will help us when problems arise in life, like rain storms and floods. When our house, our life, is built on the rock, it will not be washed away. So our wise decision is to make sure we take time to get the foundation of our life on the solid rock of Christ alone. The next step is to have a wise friend whom we can trust to help us when these problems arise for us. Jesus warns us that we will have problems. When they arise, we need someone we can trust to help us through the hard times. We need a friend who will help us stand firm on our faith in Christ. But they also may ask any hard questions that need to be answered. Who is that person for you? If you can’t think of someone, ask our Lord to lead you to a person who can be that rock solid support for you.

00(Sundaycast) Testimony Of Jesse On Freedom From Fear (Psalm 116:7; Johnson:26) (Discipleship)
Our Freedom from Fear weekend gives us the testimony of Jesse, one of our participants in the weekend. We had 21 people involved in the weekend from Friday to Sunday morning. We were at the Camp St. Croix YMCA facility. It was beautiful and we did see eagles flying and nesting around us. But the power of our time is the honesty of the people who joined in. Gary is our leader and his honesty helped the rest of us to be honest as well. We shared our struggles with each other and we received the power of Christ in our conversation and in the word of God which we gave to each other. We confessed our guilt and resentments to each other. We practiced our calling as the priesthood of believers by forgiving the ones whose confession we heard. We also shared the Shepherd’s Voice with amazing effects on the souls of those who heard this personal word spoken over them. We also had a physical healing in one woman who had suffered from back pain since she was a 13 years old. God did amazing things for all of us here. I thank all of you for praying for us. We have enjoyed a taste of grace that we will not lose as we were freed from fears we had carried with us and we will go home without these fears controlling us.
