(Irishcast) A New Heart (Ez 11 V 19 20; Luke 17 V 20 21)
Jesus makes it clear that God has voted for us. We are God’s elect. “You did not choose me, but I chose you” he declares in John 15:16. And again in Matthew 24 he declares three times that we are elected. (24:22) “And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the ELECT those days will be cut short.” (24:24) “For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the ELECT.” (24:31) “And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his ELECT from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” And our election was not based on our electability in the world. St Paul describes us this way. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” As we vote today in the United States, we do so as citizens of this nation but we are also elected by God as members of another Kingdom. As we learn in the podcast today, our Kingdom election comes with a new heart given to us by the ONE who has voted for us.
